A Season to Celebrate Graduates: Diamond Dorsey
You don’t have to have to get involved in high school, but if you don’t get involved you will probably have a very long, boring four years.
Diamond Dorsey, who graduated with honors, played basketball for four years at Loy Norrix and was part of Link Crew, the service organization that helps freshmen make the transition to high school life. She also held a part-time job for the last two years.
She loved being a part of the basketball team as a small forward, encouraging her teammates — and scoring.
One of her favorite high school memories was scoring 15 points against rivals Kalamazoo Central in her junior year. Diamond takes pride in the fact that teachers identified her as a trusted leader who could be counted on to present Loy Norrix in its best light as a member of Link Crew.
“As a part of Link Crew, I always went above and beyond to help freshmen,” she said. “And, I was always nominated to give freshmen and families tours to explain what Loy Norrix was.”
In the fall, she plans to attend Alabama State University to study criminal justice.
Most influential person: My mom — because she always just pushes me to do better, encourages me when I need it.
Best teacher: Business teacher Mr. Atiba Ward. I like how I could talk to him about anything, like friendship breakups or things at home.
And a special thanks: To the Loy Norrix security guards. They’re my favorites. I connected with all of them. Every time I was in the hallways they would speak to me. They are proud of me and they made my day every morning.
