Apply to become a guest/substitute teacher

1) You can apply online through  www.EDUStaff.org. 
2) Complete the online application including State of Michigan-mandated Global Compliance Network (GCN) training modules. 
3) Attend a guest teacher workshop.

How to Apply

  1. Log on to www.EDUStaff.org.
  2. Complete the online application including State of Michigan mandated Global Compliance Network (GCN) training modules.
  3.  Attend a Guest Teacher Workshop at a local district or ISD.
    - Here you will turn in your application, two forms of ID and official college transcripts as well as learn how to become a successful guest teacher to work in the local schools.

Guest Teacher Requirements

Per State of Michigan law, the below requirement outline how to become a guest teacher:

  • Anyone working in a K-12 setting must pass a fingerprinting criminal history background check per Michigan Compiled Laws 380.1230. The cost to the employee is normally between $60 - $75, however these prints will not expire as long as you continue to work within a Michigan public school each semester.
  • Submission of official undergraduate transcript from a four year accredited college or university showing 90+ semester credit hours and a minimum of a 2.00 GPA*.
  • The official undergraduate credits must be on one transcript.
  • Michigan law also requires that all guest teachers have a permit or a Michigan Teaching Certificate. The school district will request a teaching permit on your behalf each year; the cost to the uncertified guest teacher is a $45 annual fee*.
  •  Upon earning a Michigan Teaching Certificate, for those pursing an education degree, you can submit a copy to EDUStaff to forgo future permit fees and be eligible for a pay increase in the school districts who have elected to pay more for certified teachers. Also, you will then be eligible for long term teaching assignments as they become available.

    *No educational requirements or permits are required to become a classroom aide or paraprofessional; this is also another great way to get in front of a future potential employer, the school district.
