Food Allergies
My child has a food allergy and/or requires a special diet. How is that provided?
All of our Dining Service team members receive annual allergy training through the National FAREcheck Allergy training program. Our Resident Dietitian creates menus that accommodate your child’s dietary needs, and these items are prepared and served safely.
Special Dietary Need Due to a Disability or Medical Issue
If your child has a special dietary need due to a disability or medical issue, please complete the Diet Accommodation Form to request special meals and/or accommodations. This form must be completed and signed by your student's healthcare provider. A new form must be completed if there are any changes to your students diet needs.
Milk Substitution Request
If your student needs a dairy milk substitute, such as soy or almond, please fill out the Diet Accommodation Form stating the preferred milk substitute. This form needs to be signed by the guardian. Note: If your student has an intolerance to additional dairy products, like cheese or yogurt, the form would need to be signed by your student’s healthcare provider. (see the paragraph above)
Dietary Requests for Religious Preference
If your student follows a diet due to a religious preference, for example, a halal diet, please fill out the Diet Accommodation Form stating the diet details and meal requests. This form needs to be completed and signed by the parent or guardian. NOTE: We strive to accommodate religious requests, but doing so is not required by the state of Michigan and therefore we do not receive funding to support these accommodations. With that said, we will do everything in our reach to accommodate such requests.
Completed Forms
Before KPS Dining Services can make changes to the standard menu for diet accommodations for any student, they must first have the completed Diet Accommodation Form on file. All completed forms need to be returned to the school nurse or the resident dietitian. A new form must be submitted for any changes in your child’s dietary needs or when requested by KPS Dining Services. If you have questions, please call Kirsten, the Resident Dietitian at 269-598-9956.
After Meal Distribution of Special Meals
The KPS Dining Services Team will prepare and distribute safe meals. However, after we distribute the meal, we cannot be responsible for further guidance to ensure the student eats that meal and/or does not eat additional food that might be shared by other students.
