Tutoring with Western Michigan students resumes today (1/22).


Last chance for this school year! There will be only 1 more chance to test out of the Computer Applications requirement this year. If you want to try to test out on February 6 and 7, see your counselor right away to sign up.

Seniors, if you've been admitted to WMU, check the Admissions part of the WMU website for scholarships now and often. Some important deadlines are coming up soon.


Also seniors, if you've been admitted to any other colleges, continue to check your account portal, as well as the admissions and the financial aid parts of the college websites. Scholarships are likely to pop up any time.


There is a Teens' Top 10 meeting today at 2:20 in the library media center. Please bring the books you have read and are currently reading. The meeting will end around 3:20. See Mrs. Colvin if you have any questions. Please plan your own transportation home.


Attention all Sophomores!! Join us for your next student council meeting on Wednesday (1/24) from 2:30 - 3:30. Please plan your own ride home.

The monthly meeting for the Junior Class of 2019 is this Wednesday (1/24) at 7am in room 355. We will be planning for the upcoming Winterfest week competitions. Pick up a pass to attend the meeting outside room 355 or talk to any Junior class council member.


Finally, the moment you have all been waiting for has arrived! Kalamazoo Central now has a History Club so that you may enter the National History Day Competition. The KC History Club will convene in room 312 with Mr. Danis on Thursday (1/25) from 2:30 to 3:15 to discuss the future. This message will eventually self destruct.

Congratulations Kalamazoo Central DECA! Our Maroon Giants DECA chapter, an association of marketing students, represented our school very well last Friday at KVCC’s District III DECA competition. Mr. Roy, KCHS DECA Advisor, was very proud of our DECA members as our 29 member chapter won an amazing 19 medals in events like Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Business Services Marketing, Apparel and Accessories Marketing, Restaurant and Food Service Management, and Quick Serve Restaurant Management. Medal winners were: Khyreef Powell, Justin Bradley, Delores Shackleford, Gabby Wark, Dillon Boyd, Delsin Wright, Dammon Beverly, Noah Haines and Marshall Klein. Eight members qualified outright for the State DECA Career Development Conference in downtown Detroit on March 9-11, 2018. Congratulations to all DECA participants. Remember with Kalamazoo Central DECA “the best just keep getting better!”


FCCLA students interested in attending the State Leadership Conference should see Ms. Boulding in room 406 during their lunch this week for more information and to pick up permission slips and rubrics.



The bowling team traveled to Allegan on Saturday and De'Jah Burch and Allie Stone won both of their matches. Patrick Smoker won a match and Tyler Keown won both of his matches. Bill Soltes won a match which included a string of 5 consecutive strikes.

Conditioning for both lacrosse teams will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:15-5:45 pm at Maple Street Middle School gym. If you are interested in playing this spring, please attend, no experience necessary.


On Wednesday (1/24) the Kalamazoo United Team will host the next league event at Bittersweet at 5:00. Come on out and support the KU Alpine Ski Team. No admission fee. Go to Bittersweet and then walk from lodge to the base of Hawthorne which is the race hill.


KC students and staff, the KPS calendar has an error, this Friday, January 26th is not a half-day it is a full day of school.
