Kalamazoo Central High School

It is our mission to help our students become successful and to assist them in reaching their potential.  Building relationships with our students/families and maintaining sound two-way communication between the home and school are vital to this endeavor.  It is also essential that our parents have easy access to all information that the school offers so that they can make informed educational decisions with their children.

Here you will find essential information for parents and students for the school year.  From this site you will be able to access staff emails, special announcements, guidance information, athletic schedules, and more.  It is my desire to have a safe and productive year where the Kalamazoo Central High School Community works together to achieve greatness.

At Kalamazoo Central we want all of our students to go "PRO" (be Prepared, be Respectful, take Ownership.)   Let's take GIANT steps forward!

The Cesar E. Chavez Committees main goal is education and success for young men and women in our communities. With that goal in mind, last year they awarded nine scholarships to high school seniors who will be attending both 2-year and 4-year colleges. This years scholarship application is due on February 7th. For questions, see your counselor.

Students, we have a new opportunity for those who want to turn Kalamazoo Public Schools into a "Green District."  We are partnering with Consumers Energy and the US Green Building Council to retrofit KPS schools with new, energy-saving technologies to reduce our carbon footprint. Come out and see if we should put solar panels on the roof or upgrade our furnace or lighting. Then make a real difference by presenting your proposals to the Board of Education to make it happen. Meetings will be held after school on Tuesdays in February and March. See Mr. Gottlieb in Room 345 to sign up. No more talk. Do it.

New books just arrived at the library media center!  Many of them are the next book in a series or a sequel—like the 3rd book in the Renegades series by Marissa Meyer and the 3rd book in the Folk of the Air series by Holly Black. The sequel to Grasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith is here, as is the sequel to Children of Blood and Bone. Come take a look!

The Kalamazoo Central Model United Nations team traveled to U of M for a conference this past weekend and did an awesome job representing KC.  We had three Honorable Mentions.  The recipients of those awards are Jane Swartz, Ben Venus, and Jonathan Andrews.  Congratulations to Jane, Ben and Jonathan for their hard work at U of M and congratulations to all of our members on their hard work this weekend.

If you would like to donate blood at our blood drive on Friday January 24th, please pick up or return your forms to Mr. Hafer in room 221 as soon as possible

It is that time again! Macho Volleyball Practices are coming up. If you would like to sign up to play, then see your class advisor for more information.

Interested in running for Winterfest Court? See Ms. Guess, Ms. Posey, or the main office for a nomination form. Nomination forms are due by Monday, January 27th.

Are you ready to make changes in your school and community? Join the Kalamazoo Central Students Activists! We will meet in Mrs. Dodson's room, room 359, on Wednesday (1/22).

The Gender and Sexuality Alliance will be meeting after school on Friday, January 24th, in Room 238, Ms. Sayre's Room.  Stop on by for fun and crafting.  It's gonna be lit.

On our home court Friday night both of the women’s basketball teams won against Gull Lake. Laila Vincent dominated the court with 36 and 14. On the men’s side, KC had a 3 point halftime lead but came out on fire in 2nd to win 84-56. Trevon Gunter finished with 42 points and 10 3's. The team had a total of 14 3-point shots.

Winter athletes, we are running grades this morning. If you have any question about your grades, don’t wait to hear from your coach, get a blue sheet outside the athletic office today and get all of your teachers to fill it out. Hand it in by 3:30 tomorrow to Mr. Patterson. All blue sheets are due Tuesdays at 3:30.
