ANNOUNCEMENTS FAFSA Help: There are several opportunities to get free assistance filling out your Free Application for Federal Student Aid. There will be a "Seniors adn Parent Meeting" in the auditorium on 10/4 before the Promise presentation.  Represenatives from Western and KVCC will be available to answer questions.

Athletes: Student athletes who hope to play in college need to register with NCAA at If you qualify for free/reduced lunch you can receive a fee waiver from your counselor.

COLLEGE APPLICATIONS: If you qualify for free/reduced lunch then you also qualify for application fee waivers. Email your counselor once you finish an online application and she will contact the college about the fee waiver.

University of Michigan and Kalamazoo College use the Common Application. Insert your counselor's email address and other contact info into your application and then she will be able to upload your transcript and your recommendation. Turn in a Senior Profile to your counselor. This is required if you need a letter of recommendation. Remember that counselors and teachers should be given at least two weeks notice to complete your recommendation. Colleges usually will not review your application until all parts are submitted including the recommendations. Plan ahead!

TRANSCRIPTS When applying to college, you should submit all transcript requests online through your counselor. The website for transcript requests is In addition to requesting a self-view transcript from your high school you must request your transcript to be delivered to each college to which you are applying and scholarship programs/NCAA if applicable. If your college (such as U of M and K) uses the Common Application then you do not need to use for a transcript request.

TEST SCORES When you register to take the ACT or SAT you should have your scores sent directly to your colleges of interest. Most colleges in Michigan will accept the SAT scores that appears on your high school transcript. U of Michigan, MSU and the NCAA require that you have your SAT scores sent directly from the testing agency. (

Seniors please be advised that you should finish your college applications early, by Halloween!  Many colleges will automatically consider you for certain scholarships if you meet their deadlines. Don't miss out on free money because you missed a deadline. Check out the websites of the schools to which you are applying for details.

Research scholarship opportunities at all of the colleges to which you are applying. This may be located in the admissions and/or financial aid areas of their websites.

Be aware of scholarship scams! You should never pay for a college or scholarship search. There are many free resources listed below and on the College and Career section of this website where you can search for scholarships and research colleges. Go to for more information.
Seniors and senior families, please come to the KC auditorium on Oct 4th at 6:30 pm. This will be an informational session about the Kalamazoo Promise. Please plan to attend.

You must complete the Kalamazoo Promise Application in the fall of your senior year. 
Once you have been accepted to a college and you have decided to attend you must submit the Kalamazoo Promise Acceptance form.
Both forms can be turned in to the counseling office.

The Kalamazoo Community Foundation has numerous scholarships. Search their site to find scholarships that you may be a good candidate for. You can apply for up to 8 scholarships using their on line eGRANT application.
Remynse scholarship due December 1st.
Many of their scholarships are due on March 31st. 

If you have ever been on Medicaid for 24 months within a 36 consecutive month period you may qualify for the TIP scholarship. This scholarship covers tuition and mandatory fees for the first two years of college.

She is the Kalamazoo College Access Network Coordinator and can help you with this process.  This is a great resource!  It provides personalized scholarship matches, financial aid tips, and college resources.  Contains the largest collection of scholarships online.  Also provides information regarding careers, foundations, and academic programs.  All Kalamazoo Central students have a login and password for Career Cruising.  They provide free customized scholarships.



WMU Scholarships: 
MLK  G.O.LD Scholarship- Students must have a 3.0 GPA.  First generation college students and those demonstrating financial aid are encouraged to apply.  Awards totaling $20,000 for four years.  Deadline is to be determined.

Medallion Scholarship-  Students must have a 3.7 GPA, SAT 1170 . Awards totaling $60,000 ($15,000 annually) for four years. Deadline is October 15, 2017.
Foundation Scholarship- Students must have a 3.7 GPA,  complete application and demonstrate financial need. Award is $15,000 annually. Deadline is February 15, 2018.
Seita Scholarship- For foster care students.  Complete application.  Deadline is March 1, 2018.

Kalamazoo County Book Scholarship-Must complete application by October 15, 2017. Award is $1,000 annually.


Lake Michigan Credit Union Scholarship.  Submit your essay by January 31 2018.  Ten $2,000 scholarship awards.

Arbor Financial Credit Union Scholarship Program- Must be an ECCU primary member for at least one year, complete application, and have a 3.0 GPA.  Award is $2,000.  Deadline is April 1, 2018.    


 Consumers Scholars-Seniors must have a 3.0 GPA, ACT of 23 or higher or an SAT of 1150 or higher, submit a letter of recommendation, be a member of Consumers Credit Union, and complete the essay.  Award is $500 and/or I Pads.  Deadline is 3/18/2018.

Aspiring  Fashion Professional Scholarship-Scholarship for students pursuing a degree in fashion at an accredited post secondary school.  Must submit an application and essay.  Award is $1,000.  Deadline is June 1, 2018

Aspiring Animation Professional Scholarship-Scholarship for students pursuing a career in an animation related field at an accredited college.  Must submit an application and essay.  Award is $1,000.  Deadline is June 1, 2018.

Aspiring Business Professional Scholarship-A scholarship opportunity for students interested in pursuing a business related field.  Must submit an application and an essay.  Award is $1,000.  Deadline is June 1, 2018.
Michigan Retailers Association-Seniors must be children of owners and/or employees of MRA members. Must complete application by April 2, 2018. Award is up to $2,000. Deadline is April 2, 2018.
Phi Delta Kappa-Seniors must plan on majoring in education.  Complete application, essay, and one letter of reference.  Award is up to $1,000.  Deadline is March 2, 2018.
