College Signing Day for Seniors

Seniors Signal Their Next Educational Steps

Those were some of the colleges and universities cited when high school seniors, including Kalamazoo Central and Loy Norrix high school seniors, celebrated their academic college commitments at the 2017 Kalamazoo County College Signing Day at the KVCC Texas Township campus in April.

KVCC President Marilyn Schlack welcomed the students to the program saying, “ For those of you who are going to be joining us at Kalamazoo Valley Community College, I look forward to welcoming you. For those of you going on to other schools, I wish you well.
Today is your day. I hope you feel proud, look at yourself in the mirror and say, ‘I’ve done it.’”

Several hundred seniors from Kalamazoo County’s 16 public, private and alternative high schools attended the event, which included a public acknowledgement of their post-secondary plans, performances by different bands, choirs and drummers, and a presentation by Kinetic Affect, a spoken word duo.

“It’s a great chance for students to celebrate all that they have accomplished throughout their time in K-12 education,” said Evan Pauken, coordinator of the College and Career Action Network. “The event serves as a way to bring together students across Kalamazoo County to both build community as well as encourage continuing education in all of its forms.”
