High School Students Can Register for Credit Retrieval Classes

This summer, Kalamazoo Public Schools will offer a free, online enrichment program for students in kindergarten through eighth grade, while high school students can register for credit retrieval classes.

The KPS Learning Hub will offer free, online enrichment activities for students in pre-kindergarten through eight grade from July 6 to Aug. 6. Activities will include recorded lessons in math, English Language Arts, and ESL, special guest storytimes, and incentives for participation. Lessons will be Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, 9 a.m. for Pre-K-Grade 2, 10 a.m. for Grades 3-5; and 11 a.m. for Grades 6-8.

The Learning Hub can be found at https://sites.google.com/kalamazoopublicschools.net/kpslearninghub/home and a link to the Hub can be found on the KPS website at www.kalamazoopublicschools.com.

High School students can participate in the 2020 High School Virtual Credit Retrieval Program. Students can register online at https://kalamazoo.revtrak.net/hs-summer-school/ through June 26.

Students should discuss credit retrieval options with their counselors or dean of students before enrolling. Students may take two, half-credit courses during the summer (one per session). Students may not select courses (1) they have not taken previously or (2) have taken and already received a passing credit. Classes are being offered in English, math, social studies and science.

All classes will be held on Google Meet. Students must have a device and Internet access to participate.

Session A runs 9-10 a.m. Monday through Thursday, July 6-Aug. 6. Session B runs 10:15-11:15 a.m. Monday through Thursday, July 6- Aug. 6. Virtual office hours for both sessions are 11:15-11:45 a.m. Monday through Thursday.

Attendance is mandatory. Students who miss more than two days per session may be dropped from the program. Credit will not be awarded. Refunds will not be issued.

Cost is $50 for one course and $85 for two courses for KPS students. For KPS students on free or reduced-price lunch, the cost is $35 for one course, $50 for two courses.
