Stuff the Bus with KC on Dec. 10
K-Central Students Are Collecting Food for Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes
Kalamazoo Central High School, in partnership with Harding’s Friendly Markets and Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes, is holding its annual “Stuff the Bus” food drive from 9 a.m. to Noon on Saturday, Dec. 10, at two locations:
• Harding’s, 5161 W. Main St., near the corner of West Main Street and Drake Road
• Harding's, 6430 Stadium Dr., at the corner of Stadium Drive and Ninth Street.
Kalamazoo Central students have donated more than 4,100 pounds of food this week and are hoping for community help and support to reach its goal of 8,000 pounds. One KCHS student made a cash donation of $400, which he raised from working a part-time job.
The food and cash donations will be given to Kalamazoo Loaves & Fishes, a local food bank that serves about 700 people a day. According to Loaves & Fishes, one in six Kalamazoo residents struggles with hunger every day. Nearly 40,000 people in Kalamazoo — including 10,500 children — are food insecure, which the USDA defines as lacking access to enough nutritious food for a healthy lifestyle.
Please join the more than 90 Kalamazoo Central students, who will be volunteering Saturday at the two Harding’s locations, to work toward their goal of, “Taking GIANT steps toward a hunger-free community this holiday season.” Look for the yellow school buses to make your donations.
