Rhiannon Pitcock Chosen for State Orchestra

Loy Norrix Senior Began Private Lessons as a Freshman

Rhiannon Pitcock, a Loy Norrix High School senior and violinist, auditioned for and was chosen to perform in the Michigan Music Band & Orchestra Association’s (MSBOA) All State High School Orchestra at the Michigan Music Conference January 25- 27.

With hundreds of students from the state auditioning, she earned one of the 32 violin seats in the ensemble. In 2016, she was selected for a spot in the Sphinx Performance Academy for African American and Latino Students, where her quartet was voted best in camp.

These feats are especially notable when considering she only started private violin lessons her freshman year of high school, much later than others who’ve attained these honors, said orchestra teacher Sandra Shaw.
