EFA, EFE, EMC Joint Open House
Nov. 1 Open House Offers Hands-On Activities for sixth-11th graders.
The annual Education for the Arts (EFA), Education for Employment (EFE) and Early/Middle College (EMC) open house will provide students with the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities with 80 professional groups.
The open house runs 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Kalamazoo County Expo Center and Fairground, 2900 Lake St. The event is free and open to families, with activities aimed at sixth- to 11th-grade students, in particular.
More than 80 industry representatives will be on site to showcase career opportunities to students. Students can explore surgical equipment from Stryker Corp, ambulances and cameras from WOOD-TV 8.
Parents and students will be able to talk with experts, connect their EFA and EFE classroom learning to the real world, and discover opportunities for arts enrichment. They will be able to touch, feel, and work with actual tools, equipment, and technology. And, they will explore Early/Middle College options, which allows a student to earn an associate’s degree or certificate with a fifth year of high school. Sign up for those programs begin in area high schools in January.
This event is sponsored in part by MiCareerQuest Southwest, Michigan Works!, Southwest Michigan First, United 4 Change and Kalamazoo RESA’s EFA, EFE, EMC and YOU programs.
