Service Learning
The Career Literacy and Placement Program (CLPP) offers broad and motivating learning experiences for students seeking to explore and complete internships, job shadowing and employment opportunities.
CLPP provides Career and Vocational based curriculum and prepares each students for the real world of work.
Factors of CLPP includes:
- Study of certified vocational pathways
- Business partnerships
- Career and vocational interest surveys (My Dream Explorer)
- Hands-on workshops and seminars
- Tours with local business and industry partners
- On the job mentoring
- Customized training and personal coaching
- Job placement opportunities
- Guest speakers
Internships / Job Shadowing
Phoenix students are expected to participate in community service or employment. The school’s counselor and his/her designee works with student and various community partners to give students relevant exposures to their career interests.
Advisory
In the Phoenix Advisory course, Phoenix High School seniors are exposed to all of the aspects of college and career preparation. Students will complete college applications, seek scholarships, complete their FAFSA, evaluate their transcript and learn to conduct research. Students will complete their graduation project through the Advisory experience. Guest professionals or practitioners will be invited to meet with students, and may include the following:
- Substance-abuse screening / and education
- Diversity and Leadership Training (DALT)
- Group counseling
- Individual counseling
- Relationships
- Budgeting
- Health care / Medication
- Teen parenting
- Communication skills
- Personal appearance
Transportation
Phoenix High School students are transported to and from school by the Kalamazoo Public School District. Students may opt to drive to school.
