  • There was a small fire at Kalamazoo Central High School this afternoon. Staff and administrators quickly evacuated the building. The fire was contained to a small Plexiglas window in a stairwell. There was no other damage, and there were no injuries. The window will be replaced and school will be in session tomorrow. Kalamazoo Township Police are conducting an investigation.

  • Update: The Community Celebration of Champions, honoring the Kalamazoo Central 2011 State Basketball Champions on Saturday, April 16, will be moved from Bronson Park to Chenery Auditorium due to forecasted rain and cold temperatures. There will not be a parade. Chenery Auditorium, in its storied history, has hosted the likes of Eleanor Roosevelt and Amelia Earhart, among many other world-renowned performers.   • Kalamazoo Central High School's mock-trial team won first place at the Western Regional High School competition on March 5, which was held at the Kent County Courthouse in Grand Rapids. The team competed in the state finals on March 26 in Lansing. They placed second in the state, behind Ann Arbor Community High School.
     

  • After winning the Class-A state quarterfinals (Hudsonville, 44 - 48), K Central's boys' basketball team will advance to the next level, the MHSAA Boys High School Basketball Championships, playing against Southfield on Friday, March 25 at the Breslin Center in Lansing. Tickets for the game go on sale on Thursday, March 24 at 8:30 a.m. at the K Central athletic office (phone: 337-0390). Tickets are $8 each. Limit four per buyer.

  • The field trip to the Bodies Revealed exhibit on Friday, March 25 has been rescheduled due to the conflict with the basketball game. This trip is taking place Tuesday, March 29. Remember to bring a bagged lunch for the bus! You will go to first and second hour and meet in the front of the building by the security lobby at 9 am.   • "Kalamazoo RESA’s Education for Employment (EFE) and Education for the Arts (EFA) programs will host an open house on Feb. 8 for all students in grades 8-11 and their parents.

    The event will be held from 5:30 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the Air Zoo, 6151 Portage Road in Portage.
