Kalamazoo Public Schools Provide Healthier Choices for KPS Kids!

Since the 2006-2007 school year, Kalamazoo Public Schools has made eating much healthier in KPS cafeterias. Improvements include but are not limited to: lowering the sugar content of dry cereals to 6 grams or less per serving, reducing milk offerings to 1% milk fat or less, introducing additional whole grain/higher fiber options, reducing consumption of deep fried foods at all secondary levels, and enhancing fresh fruit options.

KPS food services management provider Chartwells recently joined First Lady Michelle Obama in her national campaign to end childhood obesity. Chartwells is committed to partnering with the communities it serves to quadruple, at a minimum, the number of schools that qualify for gold level status in the Healthier US Schools Challenge by the close of the 2010-2011 school year. Visit www.eatlearnlive.com to learn more about Chartwells’ comprehensive wellness platform.

We encourage all parents to visit the Kalamazoo Public Schools food service website at www.chartwellsschooldining.com/kps to stay current on what’s happening in our cafeterias.
