Strategic Math - 1 Credit (elective) taken concurrently with Algebra I

Introduction to Strategic Math

This course is required for students whose mathematics proficiency is below grade level as indicated by eighth grade diagnostic assessments and teacher recommendation. This course meets daily for 90 minutes and is taken at the same time as their Integrated Algebra I class.

Introduction  to Geometry

In our ever-increasing technological world, a rich study of logic and mathematical proof is fundamental for reasoning and good decision making. The study of Geometry offers students the opportunity to develop skill in reasoning and formal proof. Additionally, it helps students to describe, analyze, and recognize the underlying beauty in the structures that compose our world. Geometric thinking is a powerful tool for understanding and solving both mathematical and applied problems, and offers alternate ways of reasoning mathematically, beyond algebra, including analytical and spatial reasoning.

Sixth Grade Mathematics:

Sixth grade mathematics will provide students with an investigative approach to learning and opportunities to utilize interactive problem solving along with motivating everyday situations to learn mathematical concepts. There are five strands of mathematical study which include: Number & Operations, Algebra, Measurement, Geometry, and Data & Probability. Students will also focus on applying technological tools to assist in alternate representations and connections to mathematical concepts. Within the five strands of study, there are eleven subcategories that will enable students to be able to:

The big ideas for kindergarten children are in the area of numbers. Kindergarten expectations emphasize counting, grouping and ordering numbers. Teachers will emphasize meaning, naming and patterns.
